Following a showing of Gloria's mixed media work at the Monterey Museum of Art, the Director wrote that Gloria's pieces were "popular with the conservatives as they were with the more avant garde enthusiasts."
Still true to her origins as a mixed media artist, Gloria now works with varieties of paint and collage on paper and canvas. She has exhibited in Santa Cruz' Open Studio virtually every year since its beginning and has been listed in Who’s Who in American Art for over 30 years.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
I paint with acrylic on canvas and paper and my process is intuitive. That is, the first colors and shapes that I lay down suggest the next. The finished painting is nothing I could have conceived of at the start. Painting for me is always a journey to an unknown, which I can only recognize when I see it. --Gloria K. Alford
