Susan Dorf, "Hija"

Each spring for the past 3 years the MPC Printmakers have invited the public to the Felix Kulpa Gallery to view exemplary examples of fine art printmaking. For its fourth exhibit in this gallery, more than 40 artists have inked up their plates, blocks, palettes and brayers to bring you a stunning collection of new work. Don’t miss this opportunity to see some of the finest prints being made anywhere.

This dynamic group of printmakers is experimenting with some of the newest tools and techniques to explore the realm of ink on paper. Images range from the abstract to the familiar including work inspired by the local landscape, ocean environment, city life as well as commentary on world events and local secrets. Gallery Director Robbie Schoen once again has installed over 40 artworks with impeccable care showcasing the work of each member of this diverse group yet transforming those myriad pieces into a cohesive whole.

The art of printmaking has a long history spanning centuries and continents, fascinating collectors worldwide. The Monterey Bay region has a plethora of talented printmakers who have joined together to share technical expertise and encourage each other’s work. Consisting of both emerging and professional artists, the MPC Printmakers (spawned at Monterey Peninsula College in 2005) has launched a number of ambitious projects in the last several years to advance the understanding and appreciation of printmaking. Membership is free and open to all fine art printmakers (www.mpcprintmakers.org).

Meet the artists at their opening reception on Friday, May 6th from 6:00-9:00pm at the Kulpa Gallery.
